2003 Laser 4.7 World Championship Cesme, Turkey Day 1. Blue skies, warm sun, big waves and 16 knot winds provided sparkling conditions for the opening day of the Laser 4.7 World Championships. There were smiles all around as the 95 competitors from 18 countries and 3 continents returned to the shore after completing two races on the first day. The biggest smile was on the face of 17 year old Milosz Landowski from Poland who was the only sailor to score two first places. The total fleet is split into two groups of equal merit for each race for the first 4 days of the championship. For the final two days the fleet is split into gold and silver groups. For the first race of the day the left hand side of the windward legs paid. Landowski took a while to settle after a close battle with Alican Kaynar TUR. In the second race the left side was less favoured and Landowski produced a dominating performance extending his first mark lead to 1.5 minutes at the end of the race. Second place Philip White from Great Britain said "Milosz was very fast. At 61 kg I am pleased with my third and second place and hope that Milsoz with be a little slower in lighter conditions!" In the yellow fleet Onur Derebasi TUR, who recently won the Balkan Championship, was led home by fellow countryman Mustafa Cakir in the first race. In the second race Derebasi had to fight his way through the field before finally catching Bojan Ive from Croatia on the last downwind leg of the trapezoid course.
